Sharpe Catastrophe!!!

Just this past week, Morgan decided to take it upon herself to redecorate her room.  As we were busy making lunch, Morgan quietly entertained herself in her bedroom, or so we thought...

She successfully decorated her bed, Madison's bed, the nightstand, toybox AND the closet door...

After some web searching and Sharpe hotline calling, we found that rubbing alcohol and 'Goof Off' seemed the most successful at removing the marker (in case anyone out there is in need of this extremely valuable information).  After some heavy duty scrubbing...and careful wiping (the Goof Off starting removing the Sharpe, but also the paint along with it), we removed most of the damage.

It came off of the drawers above, the toybox and the nightstand.  Unfortunately the closet door and the footboard did not make it... Fortunately, the headboard and footboard on the bed are identical, so a little switch-a-roo on the bed and Voila!  We also did a little switch on the closet door as well - unscrew the hardware, turn the door around and Yippee!  All signs of Sharpe marker - GONE!

Well...except for the few marks on the carpet.  We're not going to complain though...we could've been shopping for all new furniture!

AAAAHHHH the joys of a 3 year old!!

JJ's Birthday and Commencement

JJ turns 10!  It still amazes me how quickly time goes by!

JJ and some of his friends had a blast at laser tag.  Unfortunately we couldn't take pictures inside the course, but from what the kids say, "it's a foggy, dark obstacle course that's soooo much fun!"

The week following his birthday, JJ walked through 4th grade Commencement at school.  We are so proud of how hard he worked this past year!  Great job, Bud!!

Simple Pleasures

It has been a busy few weeks in the Nordican household.

We celebrated Madison's 12th birthday this past weekend with pottery painting and sleepover - Of course a party wouldn't be complete without nail painting, hair crimping and lots of giggling until  2 am!

This also marked Morgan's first painting experience.  She seemed to be a pro...she chose a puppy (her favorite) and painted for about 1 1/2 hours straight!  What an attention span!  Of course, we think she had approximately 18 coats of paint on her little doggie head... he may be a little 'top heavy' when he's complete!

This past week also brought the yearly 6th grade Renaissance Faire - a very fun day with booths set up and many "wares" for sale.  Part of this study included the annual castle making.  Madison's creation included sugar cubes - LOTS of them and spray paint.  Her moat was made from Elmer's glue and food coloring - it worked great (a little helpful hint for those lucky parents who haven't had the opportunity to create one of these yet)!  Here is her finished product:

Well done, my girl!

The Good News Keeps Coming!

Another great doctor appointment this week! The doctor bumped Lori to 100% weight bearing. She can now begin to wean off of the cane and scooter and CAREFULLY walk again on her own. The doctor felt that after about 6 weeks of physical therapy she will be back to "normal". Oooohhhhh we are so excited to experience normal and boring once again!! Thank you again for all of the support and prayers from everyone!! We'll continue to post to keep friends and family up to date on our "normal" day to day activities like kids school, sports, vacations and other fun things we look forward to particiating in again. Love to all!!!

CELEBRATING!!!

We received some amazing news today!  Lori's bone graft has taken and her leg has shown some healing.  There is still a little more healing that needs to occur, but for now Lori has "graduated" to a cane, for home use only.  No shopping $$$$ sprees yet.... In 4 weeks new x-rays will be taken and at that point it looks like she will be able to go to 100% weight bearing.  Physical therapy will follow, but for now we are celebrating this huge step in the right direction!

We are feeling truly blessed and grateful to the good Lord for this healing.  Thank you to all who have prayed for us, helped our family and made us feel so loved and comforted during this LONG healing proecess!!!

Fantastic News!

Wednesday's bone biopsy went well and the infection looks like it has cleared (doctors will continue to culture the biopsy for 10 days to be sure).  The fantastic news is Lori was able to move forward with the bone graft on Friday.  Doctors took bone from her thigh (just above the knee) and grafted it to the ankle area.  The doctor was extremely optimistic.  During the procedure, he stated that the bone still looked very healthy and bled well - all good signs for successful bone graft.  Lori came home from the hospital Saturday afternoon and is much more comfortable at home.  She is in some pain, but the pain meds are helping her rest.  Lori will continue on the pain meds as well as a 3 week injection of medication to prevent blood clots that can sometimes occur from disturbing the bone marrow.
